Signed, located, and dated in the lower right corner: “V. Poveda / Rome 1884”. An interior scene of everyday life depicts a cardinal, seated in an armchair and dressed in a red habit, conversing informally with a standing gentleman. Between them is a blue macaw perched beside a table. The space is enriched with a screen, tapestries, a rug, a fireplace, and various decorative objects, all rendered with a luminous palette and meticulous execution.
