177 - Wall-mounted holy water font with adoring angels, French School, 19th Century

Wall-mounted holy water font with adoring angels, French School, 19th Century Bronze. Measures 43 x 31 cm. This wall-mounted holy water font is conceived as a sculptural relief of strong devotional character, articulated around a raised central cross, before which two kneeling angels are symmetrically arranged in adoration. The figures have widely outstretched wings and bodies inclined towards the vertical axis, creating a balanced and solemn composition. The faces display contemplative and introspective expressions, while the treatment of the drapery, with its soft, continuous folds, adds dynamism without disrupting the overall harmony. The lower basin is organically integrated into the base of the piece, reinforcing the formal unity between liturgical function and sculptural language. The bronze modeling is meticulous, with well-defined volumes and a surface that subtly captures the light. The piece is fully inscribed within the tradition of 19th-century French religious art, characterized by the academic reinterpretation of traditional models, offering a work of remarkable spiritual intensity and technical refinement.
