1031 - Portrait of Antonio Machado. Alfonso Grosso, signed. 20th century.

Portrait of Antonio Machado. Alfonso Grosso, signed. 20th century. Pastel drawing on paper. The portrait shows the poet Antonio Machado with a serene and thoughtful expression, dressed in a dark coat and a wide-brimmed hat that frames his oval face. The artist has used a refined technique based on strokes of black, white, and red pastel, achieving an intense and restrained representation of the subject, accurately capturing his facial features while simultaneously conveying his introspective personality. The use of chiaroscuro is skilfully applied to generate volume in the face and depth in the clothing, while the neutral background favors visual concentration on the model. The signature of the painter Alfonso Grosso appears in the lower right corner, accrediting the authorship of this drawing, which combines fidelity to the sitter with a marked aesthetic sensibility. The composition reflects the academic tradition of 20th-century official portraits, with a solid, balanced, and elegant execution. Dimensions: 63 x 47 cm and 82 x 65 cm.
