Mary is dressed in a reddish tunic and blue mantle, gently inclining her head towards the Child, who rests upon her. The composition unfolds against a dark background, barely interrupted by the presence of small cherub heads. The work adopts compositional and expressive formulas related to the devotional models of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, especially in the affectionate treatment of the figures and the use of warm lighting that highlights the faces against the shadows.
