Fragmentary head of a young man. Greco-Roman culture, 1st century BC - 1st century AD Modeled terracotta sculpture. Dimensions: 7 cm high x 4.5 cm wide. Height with base: 13 cm. This interesting Greco-Roman sculptural fragment represents the head of a young man, crafted in terracotta following the figurative models characteristic of the classical tradition. The piece belongs to the extensive repertoire of small human figures developed in the Mediterranean region during Antiquity, where terracotta was one of the most widely used materials for producing votive, ornamental, and domestic figures. The depiction of youth reflects Greco-Roman art's interest in the idealization of human features, particularly through the pursuit of balanced proportions and serene expressions. These types of sculptures could serve various purposes, from offerings deposited in sanctuaries to decorative elements in private spaces. Its fragmentary nature allows us to appreciate the archaeological and artistic value of these small sculptural examples, which bear witness to the dissemination of classical models throughout the Mediterranean. The piece is in good condition considering its fragmentary nature, with the wear and surface alterations typical of its age. It is displayed on a pedestal that allows its formal characteristics to be appreciated. This lot is in an international warehouse (outside the EU).
