NORTH AMERICAN SCHOOL. 20TH CENTURY. A Look Over the Shoulder, 2000 Black and white photographic print. Dimensions: 35 × 28 cm. An artistic portrait of a woman with very short hair, photographed from behind, with bare shoulders and her torso partially covered by a dark garment. The model turns her head towards the viewer, establishing direct eye contact of great expressive intensity. A black lace band encircles her forehead, and large circular metal earrings add elegance and sophistication to the composition. The side lighting delicately models the volumes of the face, shoulders, and back, highlighting the textures of the skin and creating a striking contrast with the dark background. The vertical framing and the figure's pose evoke the tradition of fashion portraiture, combining sensuality, strength, and meticulous formal refinement. His visual language shows stylistic affinities with the work of Herb Ritts (1952-2002), especially in the elegance of the poses, the sculptural treatment of the body, and the use of black and white, as well as with certain portraits by Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989), due to the intensity of the gaze, the compositional precision, and the exaltation of the formal beauty of the human figure.
