NORTH AMERICAN SCHOOL. 20TH CENTURY. Intimate Embrace, 2000 Black and white photographic print. Dimensions: 35 × 28 cm. This photograph depicts two human figures embracing, captured in a close-up frame that focuses attention on the physical contact and the arrangement of their bodies. A woman with very short hair, wearing a hoop earring and a decorated metal bracelet, rests her hands on the shoulder and bare back of a man, who has his arms around her. The composition is notable for the contrast between skin tones, the overlapping of hands and arms, and the treatment of body textures. The lighting highlights anatomical volumes against a dark background, creating an intimate image that conveys closeness, affection, and complicity. Its visual language evokes the sensibility of Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989), especially in the sculptural treatment of the human body, the intensity of the black and white, and the exploration of intimacy through refined compositions, in which gesture and physical proximity take center stage.
