Alonso Cano (Granada 1601-1667) "Immaculate Conception" c. 1656-1657 Carved and polychromed wooden sculpture. This carving is very similar to the Virgin of the Lectern in Granada Cathedral, which Cano made in 1656 and which established the basis for a model that would be widely repeated and interpreted over time. Both the size and the polychromy, as well as all other elements, resemble this first model by Cano, which was eventually placed in the sacristy of the Cathedral so that its beauty could be admired. The pedestal was added in the 18th century. A document attributing the work to Professor José Javier Gómez Jiménez of the University of Granada is provided. Height: 57 cm Pedestal: 18 cm
