Ridinger,J.E. - Presentation of the horses according to their main colors (copper titles: Here black brown chestnut dun dun gray pinto and tieger, and each according to its kind and some changes). Augsburg 1770. 4°. With col. eng. Tit. and 50 col. Engraved plates. (each numbered in the upper right corner). 39 S. Laid. Thienemann, 919 ff. - "Mr. Joh. Elias Ridinger, who has made himself unforgettable by his many, incomparable animal pieces, has completed a work before his death, which took place at Augsburg April 11, 1767 to the disadvantage of art and natural history, which his sons have published in 1770." (Beckmann, Johann, Physikalisch-ökonomische Bibliothek ... Vol. 3. Göttingen 1772, p. 154). This extremely rare work by Johann Elias Ridinger was not even fully known to the author of the list of his prints, Georg A. W. Thienemann. Thienemann was able to list 44 depictions with their titles. This series is the actual highlight of Ridinger's horse depictions. Although small in size, it is the only one of his series that he intended to have colored at the end of his life. The present edition is the first edition and also contains five of the seven plates that were unknown to Thienemann from his own experience. Since Thienemann's assignment does not correspond to the present order of binding, the 50 colored etchings are listed below in the order of their binding, with the respective number in Thienemann's index in parentheses. - Title page (919). - "The Naming of the Outer Parts of the Horse" (mentioned in the introductory text). - "Die guthe Gestalt eines Pferdes" (mentioned in the introductory text). - "A horse of all defects" (mentioned in the introductory text). - "Von den Eigenschafften guther und böser Pferde" (948). - "Liecht oder Rehe Braun" (941). - "Gold brown" (942). - "Kirsch brown" (945). - "Castanien brown" (943). - "Vistula brown" (946). - "Black Brown" (947). - "Spiegel brown" (944). - "Kohl black" (952). - "Black bay black" (950). - "Roth Rappe" (951.
