In-12, full fawn-speckled sheepskin, plain spine decorated with fleurons and gilt fillets, title label in green morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt fillet on the edges, all edges gilt, endpapers and inner covers in marbled paper (contemporary binding). xlvii and 127 pp. Binding slightly rubbed, rare foxing. Separate first edition. In this short moral and philosophical tale in the vein of *Paul and Virginie*, Bernardin de Saint-Pierre recounts the journey of an English doctor to India, exploring the theme of man’s purification through contact with nature.
