ACHDÉ (Hervé Darmenton) and JUL. — Lucky Luke: A Cowboy in the Cotton Fields. Paris, Lucky Comics, 2020. In-4, publisher’s illustrated paperback, purple spine, 48 pages in color. First edition of this volume of The Adventures of Lucky Luke, illustrated by Achdé and written by Jul, based on the characters created by Morris. In this adventure, Lucky Luke inherits a cotton plantation in Louisiana and finds himself confronted with the racial tensions that still plague the southern United States after the abolition of slavery. Accompanied by Bass Reeves, the famous Black marshal of the American West, he must confront members of the Ku Klux Klan and defend the rights of former slaves. This volume tackles a dark chapter in American history with humor and sensitivity, while retaining the satirical spirit and artistic qualities that have made the series a success. A beautiful copy, showing very slight signs of handling.
