MORRIS and GOSCINNY. — Lucky Luke. Rails on the Prairie. Marcinelle-Charleroi, Éditions Dupuis, 1967. In-4, publisher’s illustrated paperback, square spine, 46 color plates. Lucky Luke Collection, No. IX. Reprint of the 1967 edition, bearing the copyright notice “© 1967 by Morris and Ed. J. Dupuis, Fils & Cie.” Front cover features a design of wooden planks, displaying eight titles from the collection, including *The Daltons in the Blizzard*, *The Daltons Are Still on the Run*, *The Caravan*, and *The Escort*. Art by Morris, story by René Goscinny. Originally published as a graphic novel in 1957, *Rails on the Prairie* marks an important milestone in the history of Lucky Luke. It is the first adventure in the series to feature René Goscinny, ushering in one of the most famous collaborations in Franco-Belgian comics. The graphic novel humorously chronicles the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the United States. Tasked with protecting the progress of the work, Lucky Luke must thwart the schemes of those seeking to prevent the railroads from connecting. The cover depicts Lucky Luke aboard a red steam locomotive racing through the landscapes of the West, while a scuffle between two birds unfolds above the train. Condition: Good copy. The front cover has bright, well-preserved colors, with slight signs of wear. Corners and edges are slightly rubbed. The back cover is clean, with a few handling marks. The interior is slightly yellowed, with no major apparent defects.
