McMANUS (George). — The Illico Family. Volume 1: 1936–1938. Bringing Up Father. Paris, Futuropolis, n.d. Oblong in-4 album, publisher’s illustrated cardboard binding, printed spine. Black-and-white comic strip reproductions. French first edition in this format, dedicated to the adventures of *The Illico Family* (*Bringing Up Father*), the famous American comic strip created in 1913 by George McManus (1884–1954), one of the great pioneers of the comic strip. This first volume brings together a selection of strips published between 1936 and 1938, featuring Illico (Jiggs) and his wife Belle (Maggie), iconic characters of American humor comics. The book captures McManus’s distinctive artistic style, combining Art Deco elegance, precise linework, and satire of social relationships. A fine copy, with a well-preserved illustrated hardcover, showing slight signs of wear. Interior is clean.
