RIDGWAY MANUFACTORY, CIRCA 1830–35. Porcelain dinner service with a gold border and fruit motifs, consisting of 19 dinner plates, 8 serving plates, 1 fruit bowl, and 2 covered vegetable dishes. Founded in 1792 by brothers Job and George Ridgway, the English porcelain manufacturer “Ridgeway Pottery” was established in Stoke-on-Trent, in the heart of Staffordshire. Known for its high-quality earthenware, adorned with blue printed designs, it stood out for its craftsmanship and refined decorations. Following the 1851 World’s Fair, John Ridgway, who inherited the business from his father, was granted the title of Royal Potter to Queen Charlotte thanks to his remarkably high-quality bone china productions. In the 1940s, the Ridgway ceramics factory merged with Booths & Colclough Chian, bringing together two leading names in English porcelain. In 1972, this entity became part of the prestigious Royal Doulton group, thereby perpetuating the craftsmanship and heritage of the British ceramic tradition.
