RAFAEL HEREDIA (Torre del Mar, Málaga, 1949). “The Dance of La Menina.” White wax-glazed stoneware. Measurements: 29 x 30 x 20 cm (with base). Rafael Heredia’s figures convey to the viewer a love for the very act of sculpting, drawing, and painting. Their forms embody this joy of letting oneself be carried away by the creative process itself, as it unfolds on the artwork itself. One can sense and perceive how the artist glides his hands or brush over a section of a figure with greater pleasure or dedication than over another part. One sees and feels it when he expands a volume, when he extends a line without measurements, eschewing classical symmetry and creating a figure that is harmonious yet free—and new. Rafael Heredia’s work possesses an element of harmony and exquisiteness that blends with figures of souls steeped in mystery. His works are—to draw a parallel with the deep love the artist feels for classical music—a disconcerting concert.
