LLUÍS LLEÓ (Barcelona, 1961). “Raise,” New York, 1999. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated, and located on the reverse. Measurements: 183 x 213 cm. Lluís Lleó currently lives and works between the intensely cosmopolitan city of New York and the small village of Rupiá, in the Baix Ampordà region. His work, which is eminently abstract in nature, shows significant ties to European conceptualism and informalisme, as can be seen in the piece we are now presenting, which is characterized by its gestural and material qualities, as well as its restrained use of color. Lluís Lleó began his exhibition career in 1988 and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions of international scope. He has also taken part in some of the most prominent art fairs on the international scene. His work is held in museums and collections such as the Reina Sofía National Art Museum, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Fundació La Caixa collection, the Fank Collection for International Settlements in Basel, the Maison Particulière in Brussels, the World Trade Center in Barcelona, the Godia Foundation in Barcelona, and the Nagoya Art Museum in Japan.
