Théodore Géricault (1791–1824) Return from Russia. 1818. Lithograph. 357 x 440 [421 x 589 mm]. Delteil 13. Printed with a tinted stone, a variant of the one reproduced by Delteil. Very fine print on white vellum, addressed to C. Motte but before the title. Small circular oily stain at the bottom. A few light foxing spots, including a very pale circular one in the cloud to the right of the blindfolded soldier. A rust spot on his horse. Two short tears along the lower left edge. Full margins. Very rare. AABM stamp (Lugt 3075). This proof is similar to the one presented in the 20th H. auction. M. Petiet (Piasa, December 16, 1999), where a stone of similar color was also observed, with the clouds more fragmented and less softened on the right than in the proof reproduced by Delteil.
