*CHINA, Ming Dynasty, Hongzhi Period, 16th century Rare porcelain pitcher, whose form is inspired by Islamic metalware; it features a circular body with a pronounced shoulder, surmounted by a tall, fluted cylindrical neck ending in a flared and tapered rim, entirely decorated in various shades of cobalt blue with friezes of lotus flowers and foliage scrolls. The neck is adorned with bands of overlapping petals, Greek frets, and stylized lotus motifs.
