HERMES Paris - "Les Voitures à Transformations" Model A silk twill square featuring vintage horse-drawn carriages with modular bodies, arranged around a central cannage motif on a cream background, with a dark red border Design by Françoise de la Perrière, 1965 Dimensions: 90 x 90 cm The design is inspired by an exceptional album titled *Panorama universel de la haute carrosserie et sellerie* (Universal Panorama of Fine Coachbuilding and Upholstery), published for the 1851 London World’s Fair and preserved in the Émile Hermès collection. It features, in particular, the astonishing 19th-century convertible carriages—the true forerunners of modern convertibles—some of which already possessed ingenious mechanisms that allowed their bodies to be modified. The central wickerwork motif, meanwhile, evokes the ornamentation that once adorned the bodies of these carriages.
