205 - Power Gourd, Bamoun, Cameroon.

Power Gourd, Bamoun, Cameroon. A spectacular ritual vessel 115 cm tall, featuring a particularly elaborate sculptural ensemble of sixteen anthropomorphic figures arranged across several levels. The figures, with their expressive and individualized features, are combined with actual animal bones and fiber bindings, forming a composition of remarkable sculptural density. The object’s monumental scale, the diversity of its sculpted and organic elements, and its dark patina with visible wear and deposits attest to a work of great artistic and ethnographic interest. This work bears significant similarities to the nka’a kügha power gourds of the Bamoun Kingdom, objects historically associated with authority, warrior traditions, and ritual practices. Its complex construction and rich figurative decoration make it a particularly remarkable example, worthy of inclusion in a museum collection. Height: 115 cm
