Oil on black panel, Jupiter and Callisto, a very delicate mythological miniature painting An exceptionally finely executed miniature painting in oil depicting the mythological scene of Jupiter and Callisto. The composition depicts two female figures in an intimate embrace. Jupiter, who, according to Greek mythology, has transformed himself into the goddess Diana, approaches the nymph Callisto. The painting captivates with its exceptionally fine rendering of facial features, harmonious color scheme, and detailed depiction of the bodies and garments. Stylistically, the composition is modeled after European Rococo painting. Executed in oil on a smooth, black panel, the exact material of which could not be definitively determined. Inscribed on the reverse in fine gold-colored handwriting with “Jupiter et Calisto” and numbered 7841. Set in an elaborately profiled, gold-framed round frame with all-around ornamental decoration.
