177 - Clay lamp depicting a couple in love. Roman, 1st century CE. Loeschcke Type IV, shoulder Type IVa. H 10.5 cm, W 8 cm. Made of beige clay with a reddish glaze. Round body with a round volute spout and a round firing hole. On the recessed panel, framed by two grooves, a man lies on a kline, with a woman sitting on top of him. On the base is the workshop mark: L MV ADIEC (stamp of a workshop in central Italy). Surface worn, intact. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Y. D., France; acquired between 1930 and 1950; in the family ever since.
