Handwritten letter addressed “To the citizens comprising the municipal administration in Mamers,” sent from “the municipal administration of Bellesme” dated 27 Vendémiaire, Year 8 [October 19, 1799]; 1 page in folio; numerous signatures and a black revolutionary stamp from Bellesme.” (…) We hasten to inform you of the return of the mail sent to the department of Orne; it informs us of a column of ten thousand men marching toward Le Mans via Chartres, along with another column that is to pass through our town and head toward Alençon (…) just a few more moments, and our region will be spared the scourge that has just devastated the town of Le Mans. Enclosed is a handwritten letter signed by Delestang (commissioner of the government (…) to the municipality of Mauves) dated 9 Germinal, Year 4 [March 29, 1796] to the “citizen municipal agent.” 2 pp., in-8; excellent condition. Denunciation of the presence of crosses in violation of the laws and a request (…) that no crosses remain or be visible within the boundaries of your district.”
