"Tulip" Dining Table Probably Knoll International/New York, circa 1960–70. Designed by Eero Saarinen, 1956. Marble, aluminum. H. 73 cm. Diameter: 105 cm. Round marble top resting on a central, tulip-shaped aluminum base. The tabletop rests loosely on the base. Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956, the “Tulip” table is one of the icons of modern furniture design. With its revolutionary single-leg construction, Saarinen freed the space beneath the table from the traditional arrangement of multiple legs and created a form that remains groundbreaking to this day. As part of his famous “Pedestal Collection” for Knoll, the design combines sculptural elegance with functional clarity and is considered a classic of American mid-century design.
