Paul Kother attended the Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig beginning in 1894. Two years later, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and studied under Carl Bantzer. Together with the “Brücke” artist Otto Mueller, he shared a studio apartment in Munich (1898–99). A close friendship bound the two men, as Kother married Mueller’s sister. Through Otto Mueller, he met other artists of the “Brücke” group and their circle and exhibited with them. Kother lived in Berlin beginning in 1914 and was represented in exhibitions at the “Sturm” Gallery and the “November Group.” Works were also exhibited at the Emil Richter Gallery in 1915.
