CHARLES SCHNEIDER (Château-Thierry, France, 1881 – Épinay-sur-Seine, 1953). Art Deco vase. France, 1920s. Blown glass with marbled decoration in shades of red and blue. Signed “Schneider” on the base. In good condition. Measurements: 26.5 x 12 x 12 cm. This vase is a representative example of Charles Schneider’s artistic output during the 1920s, a particularly creative period for his French workshop. The piece stands out for its intense color combination and the decorative treatment of the glass—characteristic features of his Art Deco-inspired creations. It features an elongated ovoid body, tapering at the bottom and resting on a circular base. The translucent red glass incorporates irregularly distributed bluish spots and streaks, creating an attractive marbled effect that gains depth as light passes through it. The fluidity of the decoration is a hallmark of its elegance, reflecting the designer’s interest in exploring the expressive possibilities of color and material. Charles Schneider was one of the great French master glassmakers of the 20th century. Trained at the Daum factory in Nancy, he founded the Verreries Schneider in Épinay-sur-Seine with his brother Ernest in 1913. His work, marketed primarily under the Schneider and Le Verre Français brands, achieved notable international recognition following the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. His work is represented in institutions such as the Musée du Verre François Décorchemont in Conches-en-Ouche, which houses a significant collection of his creations.
