Teynard, Félix Egypt and Nubia: The Most Interesting Sites and Monuments for the Study of Art and History. 1851–52. 4 salted paper prints from paper negatives, printed 1853–58, each mounted on an original printed mount. Each 24 x 31 cm (mount 39.5 x 50.8 cm). Titled on the printed mounts: “Tâfah (Taphis)—Ruins of Buildings with Curved Course Work,” pl. 113; “Island of Fîleh (Philæ)—First Pylon—View Taken from the Platform of the Eastern Colonnade in the Shape of a P,” pl. 97; “Erment (Hermonthis) – General view of the ruins – Temple and mammisi,” pl. 69; and “Second Cataract – Abu Sir Rock – Rapids and granite islets,” pl. 160. With the photographer, printer, and publisher imprints: “Félix Teynard phot.”; “Photographic prints by H. de Fonteny & Co., established in Paris in 1851, 72 Rue Saint-Nicolas-d’Antin”; and “Published by Goupil & Co., publishers, Paris, London, Berlin, New York.” A civil engineer by training, Teynard traveled through Egypt and Nubia in 1851–52 to conduct a systematic photographic survey of ancient monuments and the Nile landscape. Published by Goupil in installments and ultimately as a 160-plate atlas, *Égypte et Nubie* was conceived as a photographic companion to the *Description de l’Égypte*. The plates in this collection range from the ruins at Tâfah, Philae, and Erment to the granite landscape of the Second Cataract, exemplifying Teynard’s measured, architecturally attentive approach. – Original mounts with light overall discoloration from age, scattered foxing, and occasional handling marks; sheets slightly cockled. More pronounced foxing and staining on the mounts of pl. 97 and pl. 160; pl. 113 has a small stain in the upper right corner; otherwise, all are in good condition, with the prints retaining strong, warm tones.
