Mariani, Carlo Maria La Testa Bronze with a golden-brown patina, mounted on a yellow-brown marble pedestal. 20.5 x 14 x 13 cm. On the reverse, the embossed signature stamp “CarloMariaMariani” (somewhat indistinct) and the foundry mark of ARA Kunst Dr. Fritz Albrecht, Altrandsberg. Edition of 320 numbered copies. With its timeless aesthetic, the bronze is inspired by classical ideals. Carlo Mariani is one of the leading figures of the Italian Transavantgarde. Since the 1970s, he has incorporated motifs from antiquity, classical mythology, and allegories into his conceptual paintings in a hyper-Mannerist style, placing them in a modern context. His works are exhibited internationally in major museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the MoMA in New York. In 1992, a solo exhibition was dedicated to him at the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt. Magnificent cast piece, partly polished and finely chiseled, with a harmonious patina.
