Niemeyer-Holstein, Otto Young Man with Folded Hands Oil on painting board. 1943. 31.6 x 22 cm. Signed “Otto Niemeyer-Holstein” in black with a brush at the lower left and dated; on the reverse, the work number “0406” is written in black with a fiber-tip pen. Soldner 0418, work no. 0406. A delicately rendered, sensitively captured knee-length portrait; on the reverse, a fragment of another composition. His country estate on Usedom became an important refuge for the artist from Nazi cultural policies. In 1933, Niemeyer-Holstein had acquired a plot of land between Zempin and Koserow, which he named “Lüttenort.” He built the estate around an old, decommissioned Berlin S-Bahn car.
