Bruycker, Jules de "Porte S'Denis Paris" Etching and aquatint on Japan. 1928. 51.3 x 61 cm (61.2 x 68.8 cm). Signed "JdBruycker" and titled. Edition of 125 num. Ex. Le Roy 154 II. De Bruycker studied at the Ghent Academy of Fine Arts under Théo Canell and Jean Delvin. Our sheet shows the towering Porte St. Denis in Paris, a triumphal arch from the reign of Louis XIV. The building dominates the composition, but de Bruycker is actually interested in the vibrant street life. The etching, executed with loose, expressive strokes, captivates with its dramatic chiaroscuro effect. Magnificent, contrasting print with margin. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is only stated in the catalog in exceptional cases. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.
