Pierre LÈBE (1929–2008) Rare square coffee table with four legs. The tabletop, framed in oak, features a surface composed of rectangular, unpolished slate slabs arranged in a skillful staggered pattern, this top is embellished with two lighter-colored slate tiles and two very small cabochons (one rectangular and one square) made of glazed ceramic. The legs are made of bronze with a golden-brown patina; the base of each leg forms a truncated L-shape with the leg itself. Dated 1965–1970. Signed “P. LÈBE” in engraving on one of the corner slate tiles. Height: 27 cm Length: 83 cm Width: 83 cm Shows signs of use; superficial scratches on the tabletop; scattered stains on the rim; the legs may have been re-soldered to the plates beneath the tabletop. Provenance: X. Estate, Toulouse. Work acquired at the time from Galerie At Home in Toulouse. Exhibitions and related works: Pierre Lèbe at La Galerie, May–December 1966. Among the artist’s stoneware pieces, tables similar to ours—possibly with different dimensions and slate patterns—were presented at this exhibition.
