SCHENK (1660–1778), Map of the Ammt Beltzig district, 1760, copper engraving Peter Schenk (1660, Elberfeld – ca. 1778, Amsterdam): Map of Ammt Beltzig, “Geographer’s Accurate Draft of the District Belonging to the Saxon Electoral District of Ammt Beltzig,” 1760, copper engraving Technique: Hand-colored copper engraving on paper Inscription: Signed in the upper left corner of the printing plate: “Amsterd. by Peter Schenk with royal and electoral Saxon privilege.” Inscribed in the upper left of the printing plate: “Correct Geographical Draft of the Beltzig District, which belongs to the Saxon Electoral District, together with all the towns and villages located therein, as well as other adjacent regions.” Date: 1760 Description: In the upper right corner are the coats of arms of the individual districts, framed by three putti: the abbey’s official seal and the council seal of the abbey town of Wurzen, and the town coats of arms of Düben and Eilenburg. In the left and right margins is a register listing the districts shown on this map. Slightly discolored and slightly stained due to age, especially around the margins. The map, which is folded vertically down the center, was removed from a binding and still bears adhesive residue on the reverse. There is slight waviness along the center fold.
