LANGE (1817-1878), Religious scenes, around 1840, Pencil Julius Lange (1817 Darmstadt - 1878 Munich): Religious scenes, c. 1840, Pencil Technique: Pencil on Paper Inscription: signed at the bottom: "Lange" Date: c. 1840 Description: Julius Lange was a pupil of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Karl Rottmann and gained a particularly good reputation as a landscape painter in Munich. King Ludwig II acquired two landscapes for the Neue Pinakothek. According to the old cover, these, as well as the other drawings by Julius Lange in our offer, come from the estate of the writer and philosopher Moriz Carrière (1817-1895), who was also born in Hesse and lived in Munich).
