LANGE (1817-1878), Architectural and portrait study, around 1840, Pencil Julius Lange (1817 Darmstadt - 1878 Munich): Architectural and portrait study, c. 1840, Pencil Technique: Pencil on Paper Inscription: labeled on the verso: "Lange" Date: c. 1840 Description: Julius Lange was a pupil of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Karl Rottmann and gained a particularly good reputation as a landscape painter in Munich. King Ludwig II acquired two landscapes for the Neue Pinakothek. According to the old envelope, this and the other drawings by Julius Lange in our offer come from the estate of the writer and philosopher Moriz Carrière (1817-1895), who was also born in Hesse and lived in Munich). Keywords: Germany, 19th century, Romanticism, Landscape, Germany, Size: Paper: 33,8 cm x 20,6 cm (13,3 x 8,1 in) Condition: Good condition. The sheet of paper old folded in the center. Minimally creased in the lower margin, two old mounting remnants on the reverse.
