Brunk, Ingbert Kykladikon Gray-and-white marbled marble, polished. 1986. 57.5 x 20 x 18.5 cm. With its elegantly curved form and masterfully smooth, polished surface, this abstract marble sculpture reflects incoming light with a soft shimmer. Straight and curved forms, edges, and gentle curves stand in a harmonious yet dynamic balance with one another, and the expressive, largely vertical veining of the marble—with its intense light-dark contrasts—underscores the sculpture’s graceful form like lines of force. Today, it is primarily the white, crystalline, and translucent marble from the island of Naxos that inspires the sculptor, who trained at the Berlin University of the Arts; however, other types of stone—tinted or with inclusions—also enrich his creative process.
