7324 - Fußmann, Klaus

Fußmann, Klaus Blue Flowers Gouache and pigments on scrap paper. 1990. 24 x 31 cm. Signed “Fußmann” in light brown chalk and dated in the lower right corner; inscribed on the reverse in black ballpoint pen, where it is signed again “Klaus” and dated. Against the restless gray-black background on the cardboard cover of a sketchbook, Fußmann makes the luminous blue of the blossoms shine, while white-pink dots and grainy pigment textures imbue the expanse of color with a lively shimmer. Flowers and still lifes play a significant role in Fußmann’s thematic repertoire. He himself says: “The flower that withers is the highest form of mourning for the transience of life.” (klausfussmann.com, accessed July 28, 2026). Exhibitions of his work have been held at venues including the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, the Kunsthalle Emden, the Kunsthalle Bremen, the Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund, and the Museum Barberini in Potsdam.
