7316 - Bohrmann, Karl Heinz

Bohrmann, Karl Heinz Untitled Collage. Colored oil pastels and ballpoint pen in black and green on three different types of paper, joined on the reverse with Scotch tape. 1981. Approx. 26.5 x 29 cm. Signed “Bohrmann” in black ballpoint pen at the bottom center and dated in pencil. For his collages, Bohrmann used pre-existing papers—often in different colors, featuring patterns, or with various textural elements—sometimes randomly creased, sometimes irregularly torn. Here, he layers these in three planes, evoking a tiered landscape consisting of foreground, middle ground, and background. A beach landscape with sand, sea, and sky, but without vegetation or figures. Instead, he surprises the viewer with two flagpoles on the left and right, thereby providing the composition with the necessary framework.
