Ruscha isolates the word “Strength” in striking typography, freeing it from any context and placing it, in a contrasting and two-dimensional manner, within an abstract, spatial setting of illusory depth. Ed Ruscha, a pioneer of Pop Art and Conceptual Art, places the combination of text/language and image at the center of his iconic body of work, using it to playfully target visual and linguistic clichés of popular culture and dismantle our habits of seeing and thinking.
