Signed “Roland Topor” in black pen and dated in the lower right corner of the drawing; titled and numbered multiple times in pencil on the reverse. The meticulous rendering of this phantasmagoria, with its dense hatching and careful coloration, is just as much a part of the Parisian artist’s graphic repertoire as the subject matter, which is unsettling in its abysmal harshness. After completing his studies in Paris, Topor became a painter, poet, draftsman, set designer, playwright, director, actor, songwriter, animator, and poster artist—a multi-talented artist brimming with macabre visual ideas and a master of black humor.
