Cream-colored body, glazed, with an oxidized paraffin engobe in black, brown, and green. 1949. 27 cm (diameter). On the base, the embossed marks “MADOURA PLEIN FEU” and “EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO.” Edition of 25. A. Ramié 88. In the center of the plate, four faces rendered in relief intertwine and merge into a single form; the rim is adorned with leaf-shaped ornaments. Each face gazes intently with a wide-awake, attentive eye and, thanks to subtle variations in expression, appears entirely individual and distinct. This expressive ceramic work captivates with its striking contrast between matte and glossy areas, as well as the interplay between flat surfaces and relief. Produced in various color variations, each in a limited edition, by Madoura, Vallauris.
