Watermark: "C & I Honig" with a shield featuring a post horn. The woman depicted may be Mademoiselle Villaume (b. 1780), a companion of the Schadow family, and not, as stated in the Karlsruhe catalog, Schadow’s sister Lotte. Mademoiselle Villaume is depicted on the right in the foreground of the 1795 etching “Schadow and His Family” (Mackowsky no. 18, plate 11). Provenance: From the collection of Walter Bauer, Fulda.
