Piattoli, Giuseppe Christ on clouds, surrounded by angels, adored by four female figures. Pen and brown ink over black chalk, washed in brown and gray, outlined in black ink, mounted on a window-style mat. 36.1 x 21 cm. Inscribed in pencil on the reverse by a later hand. Signature: Crowned coat of arms with shield and the initial “F.” Piattoli worked as a painter, draftsman, and copperplate engraver and taught as a drawing instructor at the Academy in Florence from 1785 to 1807. Only a few of his drawings have been published to date. This drawing shows a connection to Venetian artists such as Sebastiano Ricci and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, particularly evident in the two female allegorical half-figures at the left edge of the image.
