5622 - Savery, Salomon

Savery, Salomon Portrait of a Lady as Diana. Etching and copperplate engraving. 34.7 x 25.6 cm. Hollstein 241 I (of II). Mark: Crowned coat of arms. Saverys’s curious portrait of a lady depicts her in a fanciful costume of the time; additional attributes such as a bow, quiver, dogs, and the crescent moon on her hat identify her as Diana, the ancient goddess of the night and the hunt. Preceded by de Wit’s address, but with the verses. Excellent print, cut to the border, partly within it. The lower corners have been repaired; there is a small hole next to the lady’s right eye; parts of the margins and a tear at the center fold on the left have been backed; overall, it is somewhat creased and stained, as well as slightly dusty; otherwise in good condition. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
