Meryon, Charles [*] The Salle des Pas-Perdus at the former Palais de Justice. Etching after Jacques Androuet Ducerceau. 27 x 43.6 cm. 1855. Delteil 48 IV, Schneidermann 51 IV. Mark: Crowned coat of arms. The Salle des Pas-Perdus is the foyer of the Palais de Justice in Paris, where lawyers and their clients used to discuss matters between court hearings or while waiting for a verdict. The illustration is based on an extremely rare copperplate engraving by Jacques Androuet Ducerceau from around 1600. An absolutely excellent, striking print with numerous smudges and delicate plate tones, featuring a narrow margin and fine margins on the sides. Only a few scattered, faint foxing spots, mainly in the white margin; a tiny rust spot at the bottom left; a tiny hole on the right in the middle ground near the ceiling; otherwise in impeccable condition. From the G. Alfred Barrion Collection (Lugt 76). Rare. - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not specified in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
