5141 - Leyden, Lucas van

Leyden, Lucas van David Plays the Harp Before Saul. Copperplate engraving. 25.5 x 18.4 cm. (1508). B. 27, Volbehr 26, Hollstein 27, Filedt Kok (New Hollstein) 27 I b (of III). Mark: Gothic P (cf. New Hollstein, Gothic P, p. 285, 5b). From the frontispiece of *Petri*. One of the principal sheets from Leiden, in an absolutely excellent, uniform, and very harmonious early print with a very fine knurled edge around the border line; the faceting is partially visible. Slight signs of age; on the reverse, a slight smoothed center fold; a few imperceptibly touched-up discolorations; approximately two pinpoint spots on the right margin, as well as one in the upper left corner—the latter with an inconspicuous pen retouch; other minor signs of use; otherwise in wonderfully original and absolutely superb condition. From the collection of Adalbert Freiherr von Lanna (Lugt 2773). - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
