Heemskerck, Maerten van - after after. The Four Temperaments: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, Phlegmatic. 4 copperplate engravings by Harmen Jansz. Muller. Each approx. 21.6 x 23.6 cm. 1566. Hollstein (Heemskerck) 438–441, Filedt Kok (New Hollstein, Muller Dynasty) 101 II (of IV) and 102–104 I (of III), Veldman (New Hollstein, Heemskerck) 542 II (of IV) and 543–545 I (of III). Watermark: laurel wreath (?) with secondary markings. Complete copy of the second edition, bearing Theodoor Galle’s address on the first sheet and the remaining sheets prior to any alterations. Excellent, delicately toned prints with margins. Overall, slightly stained, showing minor signs of age and dusty; the left margin of each sheet bears traces of old thread binding, some with minimal paper loss; smoothed creases; “Choleriker” and “Melancholiker” have stains in the upper center; “Choleriker” also has a tiny dent on the upper edge of the sheet; otherwise in good condition. - Please ask for condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
