Vintage 1973 Associated Press Wirephoto – New York Stock Exchange Floor (1973 Oil Crisis Market Crash) Original vintage black-and-white gelatin silver press photograph capturing a high-angle, wide-field panorama of the chaotic trading floor inside the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), dated November 28, 1973 [image_4ZmU6q.png]. The high-energy scene shows crowds of brokers, specialists, and clerks packed around the iconic circular trading posts under a digital clock reading 10:47 AM [image_L8IJ0g.png], capturing the high-stakes atmosphere during a legendary financial downturn. The reverse of the photograph features an attached Associated Press newspaper caption slug that documents the precise historical moment: "cutlines MART w-wire or wild— FS .... THIS IS SCENE Tuesday morning on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as the market hovered uncertainly after taking a massive decline Monday of 29.05 points of the Dow Jones industrials. - AP WIREPHOTO." [image_4ZmU6q.png] The reverse is stamped with a prominent red ink archive publication date of "NOV 28 1973" [image_4ZmU6q.png] along with blue pencil editorial newsroom markers (3 col, mart, w/wire or wild, F.S.) [image_4ZmU6q.png]. This photograph chronicles the historic 1973–1974 Stock Market Crash, which coincided with the onset of the 1973 Oil Crisis. The "massive decline" referenced occurred on Monday, November 26, 1973, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 29.05 points to a two-year low—ranking at that time as the fifth-worst single-day point drop in stock market history—triggered by public anxieties surrounding national energy conservation programs and mounting economic stagflation. An exceptional piece of American financial history, photojournalistic technology, and Wall Street lore. The print is preserved in excellent newsroom archive condition, displaying strong visual clarity, outstanding tonal definition, and clean margins.
