INCUNABULUM. — A collection of two works in a single Gothic in-4 volume, sewn together, with a modern slipcase and cardboard cover. A precious collection of two extremely rare Gothic editions, likely printed in Lyon. — MAURICE DE SULLY. [Expositio evangeliorum]. [In the colophon]: Here end the commentaries / on the Gospels in French. No place, no date [Lyon?, Martin Havard?, c. 1500]. Sermons on the Gospels attributed to Maurice de Sully, Bishop of Paris, who died at the end of the 12th century. Printed in Gothic type, 33 lines per page, adorned with about fifty woodcuts. Incomplete copy missing the first quire a (presumably 8 leaves), leaves b1 and b2, and one leaf from the last quire m, for a total of 11 leaves. The collation of this edition may correspond to that of a Lyon edition printed around 1500, comprising 74 folios, of which only a single copy is known to exist, held at Cambridge (GW, M21857). This may, in fact, be the edition listed by Bechtel under no. M-193 (with a collation error). Water stains. — [Vita christi]. No place, no date [Lyon?, circa 1500]. Possibly an incunabulum, printed in Gothic type at 33/34 lines per page, adorned with numerous attractive engravings of various styles: some of which are metal engravings known as “interasiles,” taken from Johann Neumeister’s collection and used in his editions of Cardinal Turrecremata’s *Meditationes* from 1479 (Mainz) and 1481 (Albi). Incomplete copy, missing folios a1 and a6, as well as the end (106 folios present, ending at folio s6), containing 7 engravings from the *Turrecremata*. Significant tear on folio e2 with loss of half the text. Stains. Wormholes at the bottom of folios f5, f6, g1, and g2. There are a few incunabula or c. 1500 editions from Lyon of these two books, all of which are known to exist in only one or two copies, and sometimes in fragmentary condition.
