Gothic folio, cold-stamped sowhide on wooden boards, scrollwork decoration on the covers, two clasps, spine with four raised bands and title in ink (contemporary binding). A rare edition of these commentaries on the Holy Scriptures, printed in Colmar by Bartholomeus Grüninger, son of the famous Strasbourg printer of the same name. Printed in Gothic type in two columns, it is illustrated with numerous woodcuts, including about twenty full-page ones: several of them are attributed to Hans Baldung Grien, one of the great artists of the German Renaissance. Only 2 copies listed in the CCFr (Strasbourg and Montbéliard). Copy preserved in its original binding dated 1549. Stains and soiling; minor repairs to a few leaves; a transverse tear with no loss on leaf P2; corner loss with loss of letters or text on leaves L5, S5, p1, and y5. The endpapers and the last blank leaf are missing. The endpapers are covered with old annotations. The binding is weathered and rubbed, with decoration worn away in places.
