Quartz movement. Signed and numbered. 22 x 22 mm. Gross weight: 64.7 g. Note: It is said that this watch was inspired by the movement of a panther on the prowl—as agile and supple as the links of the bracelet. But Jeanne Toussaint—whom her lover Louis Cartier nicknamed “La Panthère”—undoubtedly had a hand in it as well…. It is interesting to draw a parallel between the “Santos” model—which, in its day, represented the expression of male power—and the “Panthère” model, which would come to symbolize the power of women. Created in 1983, this watch illustrates the rise of the Executive Woman, wearing a padded suit as she carved out a place for herself in a man’s world that was reluctant to let her through….
